First meeting held in Kyiv
On April 3, the first meeting of the newly elected members of the Council of Judges of Ukraine was held in Kyiv. The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Vitaliy Salikhov, emphasizing the key role of the judicial self-government body, especially in conditions of martial law.
According to him, 29 members of the Council participated in the meeting, which ensured the necessary quorum for making decisions.
Focus on the stability of the judicial system
During his speech, the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, Oleksandr Mamaluy, focused on the need to maintain the stability of the functioning of the judicial system in conditions of limited resources.
He emphasized that in conditions of war, the key task is not to expand opportunities, but to maintain the already achieved level of provision of the judiciary.
Key issues on the agenda
The Council of Judges unanimously approved the agenda, which included:
consideration of the suitability of candidates for the positions of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine;
formation of the organizational structure and approval of the composition of the committees of the Supreme Court;
updating the composition of commissions and working groups;
determining the powers of Council members in the regions;
approving the schedule of meetings for 2026.
Next steps
The Chairman of the Cassation Administrative Court within the Supreme Court, Ihor Dashutin, emphasized that at the start of work, the new composition of the RCU should determine strategic directions of activity and form a clear action plan.
Thus, the Council of Judges of Ukraine began its work by determining key priorities, including the formation of the composition of the Constitutional Court and the internal institutional organization.
