The Supreme Court of Justice suspended a judge of the Pidhayets District Court after a fatal traffic accident

The High Council of Justice has suspended Olga Lelyk, a judge of the Pidhayets District Court of Ternopil region, from administering justice due to criminal charges.
The High Council of Justice made the relevant decision after considering the petition of the First Deputy Prosecutor General Maria Vdovichenko.
The judges are charged with violating traffic safety rules, which caused the death of the victim, a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Fatal road accident in the village of Fraga
According to the investigation, the tragedy occurred on October 31, 2025 in the village of Fraga, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The investigation believes that the judge, while driving a Lexus UX250h, was driving through the settlement at a speed of over 80 km/h and did not reduce speed in the central part of the village.
At an unregulated pedestrian crossing, a car hit two local residents aged 62 and 63. One of the victims died at the scene, the other received minor injuries.
Suspicion and preventive measure
After the accident, the driver was detained by law enforcement officers. Already on November 1, 2025, on the instructions of the Deputy Prosecutor General, she was informed of the suspicion.
The sanction of Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for a penalty of up to 8 years of imprisonment.
On November 2, 2025, the High Council of Justice gave its consent to keep the judge in custody.
Investigation completed
Currently, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office has completed the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings. The indictment has already been sent to the Rohatyn District Court of Ivano-Frankivsk region for consideration of the case on the merits.
Previously, the Supreme Court of Justice temporarily suspended the judge from administering justice until January 1, 2026, and later extended the suspension until March 1, 2026.
