The trial in the case of Olga Stefanishyna was postponed: the ex-consul stated that she did not have the funds for bail

The High Anti-Corruption Court has postponed consideration of the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the former Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, as well as the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Olga Stefanishyna. During the court hearing, she stated that she is unable to pay the bail demanded by the prosecution.

Stefanishyna stated about financial difficulties

During the hearing, Olga Stefanishyna informed the court that if she paid the proposed bail, she would not be able to provide for her family. According to her, after returning to Ukraine, she faced significant expenses related to moving, arranging her life, and paying for legal assistance.

At the same time, the ex-ambassador emphasized that she voluntarily returned to Ukraine after completing her diplomatic mission in the United States and is ready to cooperate with the investigation. She also assured the court that she does not intend to evade participation in the trial, will be in Kyiv and fulfill all the procedural obligations imposed on her.

“With the mythical money that, according to the prosecution, I may have, I cannot provide bail with my own funds in the proposed amount, and even if I find such an opportunity, I will not be able to provide for my family,” Stefanishyna said during the hearing.

She could not hold back her emotions during her speech. After hearing the parties, the court decided to postpone the consideration of the preventive measure to August 6.

What is the former government official suspected of

Let us recall that on August 5, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office informed Olga Stefanishyna of suspicion of illicit enrichment.

According to the prosecution, the property was allegedly acquired on her behalf through other persons. Law enforcement officers also claim that the official did not reflect in the declaration two one-room apartments, cash, expenses for property repairs, her mother’s treatment, air travel and housing rental.

Stefanishyna herself stated that she was calm about the announced suspicion and noted that she had already commented on most of the issues that are now being raised in the public space.
