The bipartisan Strategic Unmanned Systems Partnership Act has been registered in the US Congress, which provides for a significant strengthening of defense cooperation between the United States and Ukraine in the field of unmanned systems.
The initiative was introduced on June 30 by a group of American lawmakers led by Michael McCaul and Marcy Kaptur.
The document provides for the creation of a joint Ukrainian-American working group, which will include representatives of the Pentagon, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and relevant departments of both countries. The main task of the group is to coordinate the joint development, production and operational supply of unmanned aircraft, ground robotic systems and technologies to counter Russian drones.
According to McCaul, Ukraine has actually become a testing ground for modern military technologies, and the experience of the war demonstrates that it is unmanned systems that are forming a new architecture of global security.
Co-author of the bill, Marcy Kaptur, emphasized that the implementation of this initiative will not only strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, but also stimulate the development of the American defense-industrial complex, creating new jobs in the United States.
At the same time, the authors of the bill note that a similar initiative, introduced by Senators Jackie Rosen and Mike Rounds, is already in the Senate.
As a reminder, earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that 15 NATO member states and 12 other partner countries have already joined the international coalition for the development of drone technologies.
In parallel, Ukraine continues to expand the Drone Deal program. After signing the first agreement with Latvia on June 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced active negotiations on similar cooperation with other European states and at the level of the European Union.
Experts note that the development of international partnership in the field of unmanned technologies is becoming one of the key areas of the modern defense strategy of Ukraine and its allies.
