The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a draft resolution on the dismissal of Ihor Klymenko from the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Document No. 15185 dated April 21 was submitted by a group of people’s deputies – Yulia Yatsyk, Serhiy Rudyk and Mykola Galushko. Currently, the text of the resolution and its justification are not available on the parliament’s website.
The initiative appeared against the backdrop of high-profile events in the capital, in particular, the terrorist attack in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv on April 18, during which, according to preliminary data, law enforcement officers left the scene. Seven people died as a result of the tragedy, and 15 more were injured.
After the incident, the minister instructed the head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivskyi to conduct an inspection of the actions of the patrol officers. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine also initiated the opening of proceedings, and the State Bureau of Investigation began a corresponding investigation. The law enforcement officers involved were suspended from service.
In addition, the head of the Patrol Police Department, Yevheniy Zhukov, announced his resignation. According to Igor Klymenko, personnel decisions have already affected the entire vertical of the Kyiv patrol police department, and this process may continue.
The further fate of the resolution will depend on its consideration by parliament. If the document gains the necessary number of votes, this may lead to changes in the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against the backdrop of increased public attention to the work of the law enforcement system.
