The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported in the first reading draft law No. 15359, which provides for the creation of a new state award – the Order of Europe.

274 people’s deputies voted for the relevant decision.

The document proposes to introduce a new distinction to award citizens of Ukraine and foreigners for a special contribution to supporting the European course of the state, strengthening international cooperation and assisting Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression.

According to the draft law, the Order of Europe is planned to be awarded to individuals for outstanding merits in supporting Ukraine’s strategic course towards gaining full membership in the European Union.

Also, the basis for the award will be a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s resilience in protecting its independence, territorial integrity and security throughout Europe.

Separately, the award should recognize activities aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the interests of democracy, peace, good neighborliness and the development of friendly relations between peoples.

After its adoption, the draft law was sent for further development to the relevant parliamentary committee on the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning.

The MPs instructed to halve the deadline for submitting amendments and proposals to the document, which could speed up its preparation for the second reading.

The initiative is part of Ukraine’s broader political course towards European integration and is designed to emphasize the importance of supporting the state on its path to full membership in the European Union.
