Trump after meeting with Zelensky: “The main thing is to end the war as soon as possible”

After talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, US President Donald Trump said that his top priority remains the earliest possible end to the Russian-Ukrainian war. At the same time, he stressed the need to maintain dialogue with both Kyiv and Moscow, considering the diplomatic path to be key to achieving peace.

During a conversation with journalists, the American leader positively assessed the meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, calling it constructive. According to Trump, the Ukrainian president continues to defend the interests of his state, while the US administration seeks to find effective mechanisms to end the war.

“I told him: we need to end this war. We must do everything possible to stop the bloodshed,” the US president emphasized, once again emphasizing that achieving peace is the main goal of his foreign policy towards Ukraine.

Separately, Donald Trump drew attention to the fact that he maintains working contacts not only with the Ukrainian side, but also with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In his opinion, the opportunity to conduct a dialogue with both sides of the conflict creates additional diplomatic opportunities for finding ways to end the hostilities.

The US President also focused on the scale of human losses. According to his assessment, the war has claimed about 25 thousand lives in the last month alone. That is why, Trump is convinced, the international community should work more actively on political and diplomatic solutions that will stop the bloodshed.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington was not limited to a meeting with the US President. The Ukrainian leader also held a series of talks with representatives of Congress, the White House administration and heads of leading American defense companies. Among the key topics were further strengthening the Ukrainian air defense system, the development of joint weapons production, military-technical cooperation and coordination of international diplomatic efforts.

Following the talks, the parties confirmed their intention to intensify political dialogue. In particular, a possible visit to Kyiv by US President’s special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is being discussed, who may join the next stage of consultations on the settlement of the war.

Despite Washington’s stated readiness to intensify diplomatic efforts, official Kyiv consistently emphasizes: any peace talks are possible only on condition of compliance with the principles of international law, provision of effective security guarantees to Ukraine, and unconditional preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting between Zelensky and Trump once again demonstrated that the diplomatic direction remains one of the key elements of international support for Ukraine. At the same time, the results of any peace initiatives will depend not only on the political will of the parties, but also on Russia’s readiness to stop armed aggression and comply with the norms of international law.
