Trump himself, answering journalists’ questions about the possible adoption of the document, said that he would make a decision “soon”.

The Senate hopes to quickly adopt the bill

Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune said that the White House has actively cooperated on the preparation of the sanctions bill.

According to him, the support of both Republicans and Democrats is necessary for the adoption of the document.

“This will require Democrats and Republicans here in the Senate, but I hope we can do it,” Thune said.

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal also announced that he plans to discuss the final preparation of the document and the timing of its consideration.

Countries that purchase Russian energy resources may face high tariffs

The bill provides for the possibility of introducing high tariffs on imports of goods from countries that continue to buy Russian oil, natural gas and uranium.

The aim of the initiative is to increase economic pressure on Moscow and reduce Russia’s revenues, which can be used to finance the war against Ukraine.

If the document is approved, Donald Trump will receive additional tools to apply economic restrictions against Russia’s trading partners.

Consideration of the sanctions initiative in the US Congress has been delayed since last year. At the same time, US senators have repeatedly stated the need to increase pressure on Russia and countries that help Moscow receive revenues from the sale of energy resources.
