Ukraine and Great Britain discussed strengthening defense cooperation: what was agreed upon

Acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yevheniy Khmara met with British Minister of Defense Wes Streeting. Acting Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Brigadier General Serhiy Sobko and a representative of Ukrainian intelligence also took part in the negotiations.

Great Britain confirmed long-term support

During the meeting, the parties discussed further strengthening of the defense partnership and key areas of military assistance to Ukraine.

According to Yevheniy Khmara, Great Britain confirmed its readiness to continue supporting Ukraine, maintaining the volume of assistance at the level of at least £ 3 billion per year.

“Great Britain guarantees long-term support to Ukraine – at least £ 3 billion per year. We expect to continue this assistance in key areas,” he noted.

What issues were discussed

One of the priorities of the negotiations was to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. The Ukrainian side emphasized the need to accelerate the supply of means to counter ballistic and cruise missiles, modern radars, and the development of the radar field.

Particular attention was paid to the development of aviation capabilities. The parties discussed support for the project to supply Gripen fighters equipped with Meteor missiles to counter Russian carriers of guided aerial bombs.

The fight against strike drones was also discussed. According to Khmara, an agreement has already been reached to supply Ukraine with hundreds of missiles to combat drones during the current year.

Another area of ​​​​negotiation was the financing of Ukrainian production of drones. The Ukrainian side is counting on increased support for this program, in particular from the proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

Agreements following the negotiations

As a result of the meeting, Ukraine and the United Kingdom confirmed their intention to further develop a long-term and mutually beneficial defense partnership.

Yevhen Khmara also thanked the British side for its consistent support for Ukraine and leadership in strengthening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian state.
