Ukraine and the European Union have begun practical work within the framework of the Drone Alliance. The first founding meeting was held in Brussels with the participation of nine Ukrainian and nine European defense companies.

This was announced by European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius.

The alliance should accelerate the joint development and production of drones, as well as help scale the production capacities of Ukraine and the EU.

What does the cooperation entail

One of the main areas will be the creation of joint ventures, the launch of joint production and the development of new technologies.

According to Kubilius, the cycle of creating new solutions should be measured in weeks, not months. Europe also plans to more actively adopt the Ukrainian experience in the use and production of unmanned systems.

A separate task is to prepare the European defense industry for a rapid increase in capacity in the event of war. This involves the creation of production lines that, if necessary, can be transferred to significantly larger production volumes within a few weeks.

Currently, European industry produces about 1.5 million drones per year. At the same time, according to the estimates given by Kubilius, Russia can produce up to 10 million FPV drones and 130 thousand jet “Shaheds” per year.

Ukrainian technologies and the Delta system

Another area of work will be the management of drones and the development of intelligence infrastructure. European companies plan to use Ukrainian experience and technological solutions, in particular the Delta system.

The Alliance members will also work on supply chain issues – access to electronics, components, materials, microcircuits and other resources necessary for production.

The next board meeting of the EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance is planned to be held by the end of 2026.

The Alliance itself was launched in July 2026 during the third EU-Ukraine Defense Industry Forum in Kyiv.
