From January 26, 2026, new rules on social guarantees for blood donors came into force in Ukraine. Some of the benefits for donors and honorary donors were canceled due to changes in the legislation.

As reported by the Pension Fund of Ukraine, from now on, donors can no longer count on payment of sick leave in the amount of 100% of the average salary, regardless of the insurance period. Previously, such a right was enjoyed by those who donated two maximum permissible doses of blood, four plasma donations or two platelet donations by apheresis method free of charge during the year.

At the same time, the legislation provided for a transitional period: if the right to such a benefit was issued before January 25, 2026, it will be preserved for one year.

The changes also affected honorary donors. Previously, citizens who had the appropriate status received a monthly pension supplement in the amount of 10% of the subsistence minimum. However, new appointments of such a supplement are no longer made.

At the same time, for those who were assigned the supplement before January 25, 2026, payments will continue in the future.

The status of an honorary donor in Ukraine is assigned to citizens who have donated 40 maximum permissible doses of blood, 60 doses of plasma or 40 donations of blood cells by apheresis method free of charge. Lawyers emphasize: the changes do not cancel already acquired rights, but significantly narrow the list of social guarantees for new donors.
