Ukraine has begun developing an industrial strategy until 2030, which should determine the key directions of development of domestic production. The main attention is planned to be paid to mechanical engineering, processing industry and agro-processing. The draft document should be presented for discussion within three months.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy and Environment Vitaly Kindrativ during the 12th Kyiv International Economic Forum

Which industries will become priorities

The Ministry of Economy and Environment has begun preparing a strategy that will determine the directions of development of Ukrainian industry until 2030.

According to Vitaly Kindrativ, the main task is to simultaneously support production within the country and create conditions for Ukrainian enterprises to enter international markets.

Special attention is planned to be paid to industries that are capable of producing products with high added value.

Among the priority areas:

Mechanical engineering – development of production of machinery, equipment and industrial machinery.
Processing industry — support for enterprises that create finished products.
Agro-processing — expansion of production of food and other products from Ukrainian agricultural raw materials.

It is expected that the development of these areas will contribute to an increase in the share of products with high added value in the Ukrainian economy.

Business was involved in the development of the strategy

Not only representatives of state bodies are working on the document.

The Federation of Employers of Ukraine, the Institute of Economic Modeling, specialized associations and experts were involved in its preparation.

Ruslan Illichev, Director General of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, emphasized that the future strategy should take into account the real needs of enterprises.

In his opinion, first of all, it is necessary to identify the most competitive sectors of the Ukrainian economy and find out what tools they need to scale production.

Such an approach should help shape industrial policy taking into account the capabilities and needs of Ukrainian business.

Ukrainian manufacturers want to open up more opportunities in EU markets

A separate direction of the strategy will be the integration of Ukrainian industry into European markets.

According to business representatives, it is important to coordinate state industrial policy with European partners.

This should contribute to expanding opportunities for Ukrainian manufacturers and their participation in international production chains.

Another priority is called the maximum localization of production during the implementation of large state and infrastructure projects.

This is about increasing the share of products manufactured by Ukrainian enterprises in relevant projects.

The new strategy should help attract investments

The Ministry of Economy believes that the definition of priority industrial sectors and state support programs will be an important signal for potential investors.

A clear industrial policy should demonstrate which areas of the economy Ukraine plans to develop in the coming years.

At the same time, specific amounts of funding, a list of future support programs, and the conditions for receiving them have not yet been announced.

When will the industrial strategy be approved

According to Vitaly Kindrativ, the draft document is planned to be presented to the professional community within three months.

After the preparation is completed, it will be discussed with specialized business associations.

The proposals of industry representatives will be taken into account when forming the final version.

After that, the document should be submitted to the government for approval.
