Ukraine launches support program for those returning from abroad: what is offered

Ukraine is preparing a new mechanism to support citizens returning from abroad. The Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity is launching the “Return Ambassadors” project, which should help Ukrainians adapt after their return and settle in a new community.

The initiative involves involving local volunteers who will become guides for people planning to return to Ukraine and choosing a community for further residence.

Even before returning, Ukrainians will be able to receive information about the situation in the chosen settlement, the state of infrastructure and the work of schools. Ambassadors will also help establish the first social ties in a new place.

What help will Ukrainians be able to receive

In addition to ambassadors, the work of consultants from the Unity Centers is envisaged. They will provide professional advice on state and local support programs.

In particular, Ukrainians will be able to receive assistance with applying for benefits, finding housing support for displaced persons, calculating social benefits and retraining under the programs of the State Employment Center.

Consultations are also planned on the possibilities of preferential lending for the purchase or reconstruction of real estate.

Support for employment and own business

The return of Ukrainians is also considered in the context of the shortage of personnel in the domestic labor market. For those planning to start their own business, one of the available support mechanisms remains microgrants under the “eWork” program.

Currently, the mechanisms of the new support system are undergoing final preparation. At the first stage, it is planned to be tested in 20 pilot communities of Ukraine.
