The Ministry of Health of Ukraine is preparing amendments to the legislation that provide for an increase in the minimum salaries of medical workers. In particular, doctors and pharmacists are proposed to set the minimum wage at 30 thousand hryvnias, and nurses and brothers – 20 thousand hryvnias.
Who and how much are they planning to increase salaries
The Ministry of Health is working on amendments to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated January 13, 2023 No. 28, which regulates the minimum levels of wages in state and municipal healthcare institutions.
According to the ministry’s proposals, minimum salaries may be:
30,000 hryvnias – for doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
20,000 hryvnias – for paramedical staff, in particular nurses and brothers.
Currently, the minimum level of wages for doctors, pharmacists and other medical specialists with higher education is 20 thousand hryvnias.
For medical staff, the minimum wage is set at 13,500 hryvnias.
Thus, if the proposed changes are approved, the minimum wage for doctors may increase by 10,000 hryvnias, or 50%, and for nurses and brothers – by 6,500 hryvnias, or approximately 48%.
When will doctors’ salaries be increased
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the proposed wage amounts have not yet been approved.
The possibility of increasing wages will directly depend on the funding provided for in the State Budget of Ukraine for 2027.
The final amounts, the procedure for calculating and the timing of the introduction of new minimum wage levels will be determined after the approval of budget expenditures and the adoption of a corresponding decision by the Cabinet of Ministers.
So, at present we are talking about preparing changes to the government resolution, and not about an already adopted decision to increase wages.
Why the issue of remuneration of doctors remains relevant
The level of salaries of medical workers remains one of the important issues of state policy in the field of health care.
In particular, nurses and brothers belong to the categories of employees who in some cases receive less than 12 thousand hryvnias per month.
At the same time, health care remains among the industries in which relatively low levels of remuneration are recorded.
