The purpose of the changes is to simplify procedures and enhance security

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Digital Transformation has supported two draft laws (No. 15118 and No. 15118-1) that provide for updating the rules for crossing the state border of Ukraine.

The initiatives are aimed at simultaneously simplifying administrative procedures for citizens and strengthening the level of security at the border.

Less bureaucracy and faster border crossing

The documents provide for the optimization of customs and border procedures, which should reduce queues and shorten the time for passing control.

It is also proposed to harmonize Ukrainian rules with the norms of the European Union, which is part of the general course for integration into the European legal space.

Expanding the powers of the State Border Service of Ukraine

The draft laws pay special attention to the functions of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

In particular, it is planned to clarify and expand its powers during rescue operations at sea, as well as in cases of violation of the state border.

Digital integration and access to state registers

As noted, the State Border Guard Service already has access to key electronic databases for checking citizens when crossing the border.

The Border Guard Service is integrated with state registers, in particular with the Unified State Register of Conscripts and Military Obligees “Oberig”, as well as with the databases of the executive service.

The next stage is finalization

The Committee emphasized that the draft laws require further finalization, taking into account comments and suggestions.

It is expected that the adoption of the changes will increase the efficiency of border control and make border crossing procedures faster and more transparent.
