Ukraine is participating in the preparation of possible trilateral meetings at the technical level with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky after a conversation with the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk.
According to the head of state, there are no obstacles from the Ukrainian side to holding meetings in this format. At the same time, the key issue remains the readiness of the Russian side to participate in the negotiation process.
“There are no obstacles from our side, but it is important that the American side prepares on its side and ensures Russian readiness,” Zelensky noted.
Ukraine has previously supported the trilateral format
The idea of negotiations in the Ukraine-US-Russia format is not the first time that it has been discussed.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky stated his support for the proposal for a trilateral meeting, emphasizing that the most important and sensitive issues should be discussed at the level of leaders.
In September, Ukraine and the United States also continued to discuss possible de-escalation steps that could create conditions for a diplomatic process.
Zelensky and Tusk Discuss Winter Preparations
During the conversation with Donald Tusk, the President also discussed the preparation of the Ukrainian energy system for the winter period and a number of other issues.
Zelensky noted that some topics were too sensitive for detailed discussion over the phone. In this regard, the parties agreed to hold a personal meeting in the near future.
The President also thanked Poland for its support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of coordinating the actions of European states against the backdrop of continued Russian aggression.
At the same time, the specific date, place, and level of representation at possible new trilateral talks have not yet been announced.
