Ukrainian Magura marine drones will be produced in the USA: what the agreement entails and why it is important

Ukrainian Magura naval drones will be manufactured in the United States for the first time. The American company ReconCraft and the Ukrainian developer Uforce have signed a memorandum of understanding, which provides for the joint production of naval strike drones at enterprises in the states of Oregon and South Carolina.

The parties signed the document last week at the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington. As part of the cooperation, the companies will provide production with the necessary materials, equipment and personnel.

ReconCraft co-founder Joe Silkowski said that the companies plan to produce hundreds, and in the future, thousands of Magura drones each year.

“Our goal is to produce hundreds or even thousands of Magura drones each year at facilities in Oregon and South Carolina,” he said.

Why the US is interested in Ukrainian developments

Washington’s interest in Ukrainian naval drones has increased significantly after the US military began to more actively use unmanned systems during operations in the Middle East. Ukraine’s military experience gained during the years of full-scale war is today considered one of the most valuable in the field of naval drones.

In parallel, the US and Ukraine are working to expand defense-industrial cooperation. In particular, the US State Department, together with the Ukrainian Embassy, ​​are preparing a separate memorandum that should simplify the entry of Ukrainian military technologies into the American market.

In addition, US President Donald Trump previously stated that he was considering allowing Ukraine to produce American Patriot interceptor missiles.

What is known about Magura

Magura is a Ukrainian-made multi-purpose naval drone capable of covering about 560 kilometers and carrying up to 770 kilograms of payload. Depending on the configuration, their cost is less than $500,000.

In addition to strike missions, drones can:

launch aerial drones;

perform mine countermeasures;

tow sonar systems to search for submarines.

According to Uforce CEO Oleg Roginsky, the localization of Magura production in the United States will allow the American military to use Ukrainian combat experience.

“Permitting Ukraine to produce Magura in the United States is absolutely key, as it will allow the Americans to use the tactics and concepts honed during the years of the war in Ukraine,” he emphasized.

Ukrainian technology enters the global market

During a full-scale war, Magura naval drones repeatedly demonstrated high efficiency. They were one of the factors that forced the Russian fleet to significantly reduce its activity in the Black Sea. Drones were also used to destroy ships, infrastructure facilities, and even individual air targets.

In addition, American special forces have already tested Ukrainian Magura for the first time during exercises in the Philippines, where the drone successfully hit and sank a target ship.

According to the head of Uforce USA, Sean Plankey, the company became the first manufacturer of naval drones to receive approval from the Ukrainian government to produce such systems in the United States.

Thus, the agreement between ReconCraft and Uforce could be an important step not only for the development of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex, but also for the integration of Ukrainian military technologies into the US production system.
