Ukrainians can change the type of pension: how to switch to a more profitable option

Ukrainians who are entitled to several types of pension benefits at once can choose the most advantageous option for themselves. To do this, it is enough to submit an application to the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

As explained by the Pension Fund of Ukraine, if a person is simultaneously entitled to an old-age, long-service, disability or survivor’s pension, only one of these types will be paid – at the choice of the pensioner himself.

For example, a citizen can switch from a long-service pension to an old-age pension if the amount of payments in this case is higher.

How to apply online

To make an online transition, you must have a qualified electronic signature (QES) and access to an electronic account on the Pension Fund portal.

To submit an application, you must:

log in to the PFU web portal using QES;

in the “About pension benefits” section, select the “Application for pension recalculation” service;
in the “Type of transfer” field, indicate “transfer to another type of pension”;
fill in the required data and upload scanned documents;
consent to the processing of personal data;
check the application, sign it with the KEP and send it.

After that, the documents are automatically sent to the Pension Fund for consideration.

What documents are needed

The application may require:

passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
identification code;
documents on insurance experience for periods of work before January 1, 2004 (if they have not been submitted before).

The PFU emphasizes: scanned copies must be color, clear and saved in JPG or PDF format. The maximum size of one file is up to 1 MB, the recommended scan quality is 300 dpi.

How to check the status of the application

After submitting the documents, the pensioner can track the status of consideration in his personal account on the PFU portal in the “My applications” section.

You can also submit an application in person at the Pension Fund service center.
