Families who legally reside in Canada and raise children may receive increased government assistance under the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) program. This also applies to Ukrainians who are in the country legally and meet the program requirements.

This was reported by the Government of Canada.

What is the amount of payments in 2026

From July 2026, the maximum amount of government assistance is:

up to 679 Canadian dollars per month – for each child under 6 years of age;
up to 573 Canadian dollars per month – for a child aged 6 to 17 years.

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) program is a monthly tax-free payment for families raising children under 18 years of age. It is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and the right to assistance is reviewed annually after filing a tax return.

What does the amount of assistance depend on

The amount of benefits is determined individually. The calculation takes into account:

the number of children in the family;
the age of each child;
the adjusted family net income (AFNI) as reported on the tax return.

The maximum benefit is available to families whose adjusted income for 2025 does not exceed 38,237 Canadian dollars.

If the family income is between 38,237 and 82,847 CAD, the amount of the benefit is gradually reduced. For incomes above 82,847 CAD, the amount of the benefit is reduced according to a special formula that also takes into account the number of children.

Why benefits may change

The Government of Canada reviews the amount of the benefit each year in July based on the family’s income for the previous calendar year.

For example, payments made from July 2026 to June 2027 are calculated based on the 2025 tax return.

In addition, the amount of the benefit is indexed annually according to the inflation rate.

Joint Custody Benefits

If parents have joint custody of a child, each of them receives 50% of the amount they would have if they had sole custody.

At the same time, the calculation is made separately for each parent, taking into account their own family income.

Additional assistance for children with disabilities

In addition to the main Canada Child Benefit program, individual families may apply for additional financial support.

In particular, if the child is eligible for an appropriate tax credit, the family can automatically receive the Child Disability Benefit – up to 3,480 Canadian dollars per year, or up to 290 CAD per month for each child with a disability.

This payment is calculated in addition to the main CCB benefit.

Families may also be eligible for other federal, provincial or territorial support programs depending on their place of residence and family circumstances.
