Up to 500 thousand hryvnias for housing adaptation: Kyiv has simplified receiving compensation for veterans

Kyiv has simplified the procedure for obtaining partial compensation for re-equipping housing for Defenders with disabilities of groups I and II as a result of the war. The maximum amount of assistance can be 500 thousand hryvnias.

The Kyiv City Council has made appropriate changes to the city program “Support for Kyivans – Defenders of Ukraine”.

What has changed

One of the main innovations is that veterans no longer need to obtain a defect certificate from the district state administration.

The need for housing adaptation work will be determined by the Kyiv Military Hub multidisciplinary team. Specialists will assess the needs of the person and the living space, after which they will prepare an appropriate conclusion.

This conclusion will be sufficient instead of a defect certificate. Veterans will also be able to receive support during the application for compensation through the Hub.

What can you spend up to 500 thousand hryvnias on

Compensation funds can be used for repair work necessary to adapt the apartment to the individual needs of the person.

In particular, this concerns:

widening doorways;
dismantling and installing doors;
removing thresholds;
installing threshold ramps and ramps;
adapting the sanitary room and kitchen;
installing handrails;
moving sockets and switches;
improving lighting, including installing sensor systems.
What documents are needed

To apply for compensation, you will need to contact the Kyiv Military Hub and submit an application.

You will also need a passport, a National Register of Civilians, a war-related disability certificate, recommendations based on the results of an assessment of daily functioning, a document on ownership of the home – if available, consent of co-owners, documents confirming the costs of repairs and materials, as well as the IBAN social account number or Kyiv resident card.

When will the new rules come into effect

At the same time, it will be possible to use the updated procedure after the decision of the Kyiv City Council comes into force – from the moment of its official publication.

After that, the Department of Social and Veteran Policy must prepare the appropriate procedure and send it for state registration.
