The Verkhovna Rada does not plan to move its work from Kyiv to Lviv due to the intensification of Russian attacks on the capital. Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said that deputies will continue to work at 5 Hrushevsky Street as long as it is possible.
Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk commented on information about the possible relocation of the Ukrainian parliament from the capital to Lviv amid Russian shelling.
According to him, there are currently no such plans.
“The Ukrainian parliament has been working since the first day of the war and will continue to work in the building at 5 Hrushevsky Street as long as it is possible,” Stefanchuk stressed.
The Parliament Speaker also called for not spreading information about the possible relocation of the Rada and noted that conditions have been created for people’s deputies to continue working even during air raids.
Deputies will be able to vote in shelters
The Verkhovna Rada has set up alternative workplaces that allow deputies not only to be in shelters during times of danger, but also to continue parliamentary work.
In particular, the corresponding places are arranged in the conference hall on the ground floor and in the adjacent premises. In total, there are 368 seats for people’s deputies, and if necessary, their number can be increased.
In early September, the Verkhovna Rada also presented an alternative format and voting system during air raids.
Thus, despite the intensification of Russian attacks on Kyiv, the parliament is currently continuing to work in the capital, and to continue its work during air raids, equipped protected premises will be used.
