Zelenskyy arrives in the US: the focus of the visit is a meeting with Trump and negotiations on Ukraine’s defense

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has begun an official visit to the United States of America. The main event of the trip will be a meeting with US President Donald Trump, during which the parties will discuss the peace process, strengthening Ukrainian air defense, and further strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The head of state announced the start of the visit on his social networks.

According to Zelenskyy, the key priority of the negotiations is strengthening the Ukrainian air defense system, in particular, the development of cooperation in the field of anti-ballistic defense.

“The number one priority is anti-ballistics and strategic cooperation with America. Peace must become closer,” the president emphasized.

The meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump is scheduled for 16:30 Kyiv time. In addition to talks with the head of the White House, the Ukrainian president will hold a number of meetings with representatives of the American administration and the defense sector, which can contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

At the same time, as a White House representative reported in a comment to CNN, the main topic of the negotiations will be the ongoing peace process to end the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.

“Now is the time to end the war,” said a US administration official, commenting on the upcoming meeting of the two leaders.

In addition to political negotiations, the program of the visit includes Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in the farewell ceremony for US Senator Lindsey Graham, who was one of the most consistent supporters of Ukraine in the US Congress.

The President of Ukraine noted that the Ukrainian delegation will pay tribute to politics on behalf of the entire state.

“On behalf of all of Ukraine, we will honor the memory of Lindsey Graham and, together with everyone at the ceremony in Washington, we will remember his efforts for security and freedom in Euro-Atlantic and other regions of the world,” Zelenskyy said.

Recall, the day before it became known that all 100 US senators were invited to the meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This comes amid consideration of a legislative initiative known as the Lindsey Graham Russia Sanctions Act, known in the US as the “sanctions from hell” bill.
