President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the leaders of the European Union to unblock the negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the EU as soon as possible. He made the corresponding statement during an address to the participants of the meeting of EU heads of state and government, which took place in Cyprus.

The head of state emphasized that Ukraine is counting on full membership in the European Union, taking into account both its contribution to European security and the implementation of key reforms. According to him, Kyiv expects to move to practical steps in the near future.

“We strive for the same full membership that every state of the European Union has – from Cyprus to Poland. The only thing we ask for is to accelerate the process with a clear start date,” the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy also noted that accelerating Ukraine’s European integration will become an important factor in countering Russia’s attempts to destabilize Europe. He thanked the partners for their support and expressed hope that the EU would open all six negotiation clusters this year, and at least one of them would be closed by the end of the year.
