President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Andriy Kovalenko from the post of head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council. Kovalenko stated that he will continue to work in the field of national security and cognitive confrontation with Russia.

The personnel decision is evidenced by the corresponding presidential decree.

Andriy Kovalenko himself announced that he was leaving his position after three years of work at the Center for Countering Disinformation, and thanked the president for accepting his resignation.

According to Kovalenko, during this time the team managed to build the institution, develop media products to counter disinformation, and strengthen cooperation with international partners.

Why did Kovalenko decide to leave the Center for Countering Disinformation

In a comment to “Media Detector”, Kovalenko explained that after three years in the position, he decided to change his direction of work.

He emphasized that before working in the public sector, he had experience in the media, international analytical centers, and was also a military serviceman and UAV operator.

Kovalenko noted that his team will continue to work at the Center for Countering Disinformation. In his opinion, the new head will be able to make changes that will contribute to the further development of the institution.

Where will Kovalenko work next

The former head of the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that he remains in the national security sector, and his further activities will be related to cognitive warfare.

At the same time, Kovalenko has not yet named a specific new place of work. According to him, the relevant procedures are currently underway, so the details should remain confidential.

It is currently unknown who will head the Center for Countering Disinformation after his dismissal. According to sources of “Detector Media”, the Center may work under the leadership of an acting person for some time.

Andriy Kovalenko was appointed head of the Center for Countering Disinformation in January 2024. The Center itself was created under the National Security and Defense Council in March 2021 to counter disinformation and propaganda.
