President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in New York with the heads of leading American companies and representatives of international financial institutions. One of the main topics was attracting private investment to support the Ukrainian economy and the future reconstruction of the country.

The meeting took place on September 23 during the Ukrainian delegation’s stay in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. It was attended by representatives of more than 30 American companies, members of the International Advisory Group on Attracting Investments to Ukraine and Developing Priority Sectors of the Economy, as well as representatives of international financial institutions.

Who participated in the meeting

Among the participants were heads and representatives of Citigroup, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Lazard, Macquarie, State Street, Jane Street, Fairfax, and McKinsey & Company.

Representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development also joined the negotiations.

The meeting was organized by Citigroup and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Investment and reconstruction of Ukraine

One of the central topics of the negotiations was the attraction of American private capital to the Ukrainian economy and future reconstruction.

The parties also discussed support for Ukraine on the eve of the winter period, strengthening the economy and the possibility of creating a sovereign fund.

Citi CEO Jane Fraser emphasized the important role of the private sector in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Citi itself has been working in Ukraine for over 25 years and declares its intention to promote investment and support Ukrainian companies.

Ukraine seeks resources to support the economy

The negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of a significant financial burden on the Ukrainian economy due to the war and Russian attacks on infrastructure and key export industries.

According to Reuters data cited in the material, Ukraine’s daily spending on the war in 2026 has increased to approximately $ 190 million.

In parallel, the Ukrainian authorities are holding talks with international partners on the state’s financial stability. In particular, during a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Zelensky said that the Fund would help Ukraine find some of the resources needed for financing in 2027.

Thus, negotiations with American business have become part of Kyiv’s broader work to attract international capital and create a financial base to support the economy and further reconstruction of Ukraine.
