An electronic petition calling on the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to hold an open press conference with the participation of independent journalists has gained the necessary 25 thousand votes for consideration.
The corresponding appeal was published on the President’s website on August 27, 2026. Currently, the petition has the status “Awaiting consideration”.
What the petition author demands
The author of the appeal is Anna Repina from Dnipro. She calls for a separate open press conference by Volodymyr Zelensky with the participation of representatives of independent and socially important Ukrainian media.
This is a format in which journalists could ask the president questions without prior approval of their content.
Among the media outlets whose representatives are proposed to be invited, the petition mentions Ukrainska Pravda, Bihus.Info, Slidstvo.Info, Radio Svoboda, hromadske, The Kyiv Independent, Suspilne, NV, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, BBC Ukraine, Liga.net and others.
“Not an imitation of dialogue”
Repina links her initiative, in particular, to the protest actions that took place after personnel changes in the Ministry of Defense. The author believes that after the rallies, society did not receive enough open dialogue with the authorities.
In her opinion, a separate press conference with the participation of independent and critical journalists would provide an opportunity to raise issues of domestic policy, government decisions and demands that were voiced during the protests.
The author emphasizes that she does not expect a formal event, but an opportunity for open dialogue and answers to pressing questions.
What’s next
The petition has already passed the required threshold of 25,000 signatures and is awaiting consideration.
As of the time of publication, there was no information about the decision to hold such a press conference. According to Suspilny, the Office of the President has not yet announced whether a corresponding event with the participation of journalists will be organized.
