Accountant suspected of embezzling 700,000 hryvnias from employer: he may have spent part of the funds at an online casino

In Ukraine, law enforcement officers have exposed an accountant suspected of embezzling about 700 thousand UAH of company funds. According to the investigation, the man had access to the company’s financial transactions and could have used his official position to illegally transfer money.

As the investigation established, the total amount of funds that the accountant could have seized is about 700 thousand UAH. According to preliminary data from law enforcement officers, he used part of the money to replenish his gaming account in an online casino and further participate in gambling. The rest could have been spent on personal needs.

How the company’s funds could have been embezzled

Investigators are checking the financial transactions that the accountant carried out during the period covered by the criminal proceedings. Law enforcement officers are establishing the exact number of transfers, their purpose and the accounts to which the money was received.

Transactions related to replenishing the account in an online casino are being checked separately. According to the preliminary version of the investigation, the company’s funds could have been used for gambling.

Law enforcement officers must also establish the full amount of losses caused to the employer and find out whether other persons could have been involved in the relevant financial transactions.

What threatens the accountant

Currently, the man has been notified of suspicion of embezzlement of the employer’s funds. The final legal qualification of his actions and further procedural decisions will depend on the results of the pre-trial investigation.

At the same time, the notification of suspicion does not mean proving the person’s guilt. Guilt can only be established by a court verdict of guilty.

If the investigation confirms the illegal use of the company’s funds, the materials of the criminal proceedings can be transferred to the court.
