Servicemen who have signed a contract for military service for a period of 14 or 24 months enjoy the same rights to leave as other servicemen. The information that contract soldiers cannot count on rest during service is not true.

The CCC emphasized that the procedure for granting leave is determined by the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Servicemen and Members of Their Families”, which applies to all servicemen, regardless of the term of the contract.

What leave can contract soldiers receive

According to the legislation, servicemen serving under a contract are entitled to:

annual basic leave of up to 30 calendar days;

additional leave of up to 14 calendar days for persons who have the status of a participant in hostilities;
leave for family reasons or for other valid reasons of up to 10 calendar days;
other types of leave provided for by current legislation.

The specific procedure for granting leave is determined by regulatory legal acts and depends on the conditions of military service.

What social guarantees are preserved

The CCC and the SP emphasized that military service under a contract provides for a full range of social guarantees established by the legislation of Ukraine.

In particular, servicemen have the right to:

cash benefits;

medical benefits;

social protection of servicemen and their family members;

annual and additional leaves;

other guarantees provided for by the laws of Ukraine.

The territorial recruitment center emphasized that the term of the contract — 14 or 24 months — does not affect the scope of a serviceman’s social rights.

Thus, servicemen serving under new contracts have the right to rest and other social guarantees on general grounds, and the widespread information about their alleged lack of the right to leave does not meet the requirements of current legislation.
