Due to Russian strikes on warehouses in Ukraine, food deliveries are being changed: prices may increase

Russian strikes on large warehouses and logistics centers are forcing Ukrainian businesses to restructure their food supply system. Goods can be transported in smaller batches, but more frequently, and manufacturers can more actively deliver products directly to stores. Due to additional logistics costs, prices may increase by up to 2.5%.

This was reported by the Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky.

According to him, despite the Russian attacks, there is enough food in Ukraine. At the same time, the supply system must adapt to new security conditions.

How will food delivery change

The traditional model involved the concentration of large volumes of products in central warehouses and logistics centers, from where goods were distributed between stores.

During the war, such a system became more vulnerable: as a result of an attack on one large facility, a business can lose significant stocks at the same time.

Therefore, companies may switch to a decentralized model. Products will be stored in smaller batches in different locations, and deliveries will be made more frequently.

Another option would be to increase direct deliveries under the “producer-store” scheme, which would reduce dependence on large logistics centers.

Will products become more expensive

The restructuring of logistics will mean additional costs for business. Instead of one large flight, several smaller ones may be required, which will increase the cost of fuel, driver labor, transportation, and product storage.

Part of these costs may be included in the final cost of goods.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy does not expect a sharp increase in prices precisely due to the change in logistics. According to the department, the additional price increase may be up to 2.5%.

Some goods may temporarily disappear from the shelves

Due to the new delivery system, Ukrainians may periodically notice the absence of certain goods in specific stores.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy explains that this will not necessarily indicate a shortage. The reason may be a delay in the next batch or a change in the supply route.

Thus, the assortment in a particular supermarket may temporarily decrease, but this will not mean a shortage of the corresponding products in Ukraine as a whole.

Will Ukraine have enough products

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy assures that the food supply situation remains stable. Ukraine has enough products and production capacities to meet the needs of the domestic market.

In particular, a sufficient harvest of the main vegetables of the so-called borscht set is expected – potatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots and onions.

Therefore, there is currently no reason to talk about a large-scale shortage of products due to Russian attacks on the logistics infrastructure.
