Strong boost for farmers

The European Union is allocating €12 million to support the development of agriculture and rural areas in Ukraine. The funding is aimed at strengthening small farms and modernizing the agricultural sector.

This comes with the launch of the third phase of the EU4SmallFarms and EU4SaferFood programs, which are expected to play a key role in transforming the industry.

Moving closer to EU standards

The new phase will help Ukraine align its legislation and practices with EU standards, particularly in food safety, animal health and welfare, and phytosanitary measures.

According to the EU Delegation, this support is part of a broader partnership designed to prepare Ukraine for EU membership and integration into the EU single market.

Implementation and partners

The projects will run for 40 months and will be implemented in close cooperation with key Ukrainian institutions, including:

  • the relevant ministry for economy and agriculture;
  • the Parliament of Ukraine;
  • the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection;
  • state agencies in forestry and water management.

New opportunities for business

Ukrainian officials emphasize that the initiatives will not only strengthen state control systems but also create new opportunities for market operators and agricultural businesses.

What it means for Ukraine

Funded under the Ukraine Facility instrument, the program is expected to accelerate modernization of the agricultural sector, improve product quality, and expand access of Ukrainian goods to EU markets.
