Germany calls on Iran to negotiate with the US and open the Strait of Hormuz

German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadeful spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and called on Tehran to engage in constructive talks with the United States and Middle Eastern countries.

The main topic of the conversation was the need to end the war and restore safe shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Berlin calls for negotiations

According to Wadeful, Iran should begin “truly constructive” negotiations with its Middle Eastern neighbors and the United States, which could contribute to ending the war.

Separately, the German Foreign Minister stressed the need to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Strait of Hormuz must be unconditionally open and ensure free and safe navigation for all,” Wadeful said.

The US is looking for a way out of the war

Previously, the media reported that US President Donald Trump was preparing to declare “victory” over Iran. At the same time, Tehran allegedly put forward tougher conditions for the resumption of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Also, according to media reports, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, in conversations with the US president’s advisers, called for finding ways out of the war with Iran and warned against further escalation.

Against this background, diplomatic contacts with Tehran are intensifying, and the issue of restoring safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the key ones.
