Ukraine is closely monitoring Russia’s attempts to drag Belarus into a full-scale war and is ready to respond immediately in the event of any attack from the north.
This was stated by Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN Andriy Melnyk during a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York.
According to the diplomat, Kyiv is recording the Kremlin’s increasingly active actions aimed at using the territory of Belarus for military purposes.
– We are closely monitoring Russia’s actions aimed at further dragging Belarus into aggression against Ukraine. This is another alarming threat that the UN Security Council must pay attention to, – Melnyk stressed.
“Lukashenko’s regime is losing sovereignty”
The representative of Ukraine stated that the regime of Alexander Lukashenko has actually allowed Russia to use Belarusian territory, military infrastructure and airspace to implement its military plans.
According to Melnyk, the Kremlin is gradually integrating Belarus into its own military strategy through joint exercises, mobilization measures and the deployment of modern missile systems, including those with a nuclear component.
The Ukrainian side believes that this creates new risks not only for Ukraine, but also for the entire European security system.
Ukraine is ready to act under Article 51 of the UN Charter
At the same time, Kyiv hopes that Minsk will not dare to directly enter the war. However, in the event of an attack, Ukraine will exercise its right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“Any attack from the north will provoke an immediate and decisive response, and the regime in Minsk will face devastating consequences,” said Andriy Melnyk.
The Ukrainian diplomat also called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia and Belarus to prevent a new escalation of the war.
Ukraine is preparing for possible threats
On the eve of the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, said that the Ukrainian military is ready not only for new air attacks by the Russian Federation, but also for the potential entry of Belarus into the war on the side of Russia.
According to him, the Forces of Unmanned Systems have already identified the first 500 strategic targets on the territory of Belarus in the event of an escalation.
It was also previously reported that Russia is considering the possibility of new attacks on the northern regions of Ukraine from the territory of Belarus and the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. In response, Ukraine is strengthening the defense of the northern direction and preparing preventive security measures.
