Court Retains Ex-Minister in Custody

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has extended the preventive measure for former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.

The investigating judge decided to keep him in custody for another two months. Thus, the ex-minister will continue to be in custody as part of the investigation of the high-profile case.

Alternative — bail of 200 million UAH

At the same time, the court did not change the alternative preventive measure — the possibility of paying bail in the amount of 200 million UAH.

If this amount is paid, Galushchenko will be subject to a number of procedural obligations, including restrictions on movement and the need to cooperate with the investigation.

The Midas case and serious charges

According to the investigation, the ex-minister is charged with participation in a criminal organization and laundering of proceeds from crime (Part 2 of Article 255, Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Herman Galushchenko was detained on February 15, 2026 by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine within the framework of the so-called “Midas” case. According to law enforcement officials, he was detained while attempting to cross the state border.

Suspicion and previous court decisions

The very next day, February 16, Galushchenko was officially notified of the suspicion. Subsequently, the court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of bail.

The decision to extend the arrest indicates that the investigation considers the risks of obstructing the investigation to be relevant.

Investigation ongoing

Currently, investigative actions in the “Midas” case are ongoing. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the possible functioning of a criminal scheme in the energy sector, which, according to the investigation, could have caused significant damage to the state.
