Massive Russian strikes on warehouses in Kyiv and excitement in stores should not lead to a shortage of products or a sharp rise in prices. Ukrainians also do not need to massively buy cereals, sugar and other goods for the winter.

Economist Oleg Pendzyn told about this in a comment on Femida.ua.

According to him, messages about a possible shortage of products are actively spreading, in particular, through anonymous Telegram channels and are provoking consumer panic. At the same time, the real situation on the market does not indicate a food shortage.

“There is no deficit in Ukraine,” Pendzyn emphasized.

The economist drew attention to the fact that after the strikes on warehouses, there was no sharp increase in the price of dairy products, meat, bread and other basic goods. One of the reasons is high competition and a large number of channels through which Ukrainians buy products.

It is not only about large supermarkets, but also about agricultural markets, fairs, wholesale chains, small shops near the home and directly from producers. Therefore, according to the expert, it is difficult to transfer the losses of individual trade networks after the Russian attacks to the consumer due to price increases.

“There can be no increase in prices, no shortage,” Pendzyn said.

He also called on Ukrainians not to repeat the situations of previous years, when, due to panic, people massively bought salt, buckwheat and other goods at inflated prices, creating artificial excitement.

An additional factor of stability remains a significant volume of own food production. According to the data given by Pendzyna, the internal consumption of grain in Ukraine is significantly less than the volume of the harvest.

Moreover, the expert does not rule out that in autumn some agricultural products may even become cheaper due to a significant supply on the domestic market.

Therefore, according to the economist, it is not necessary to make large stocks of products for the winter due to the fear of shortages.
