An important meeting of the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the leadership of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania and representatives of the Ukrainian community took place in Bucharest. The event was another step in strengthening interstate dialogue and support for Ukrainians abroad.

The Ukrainian delegation included people’s deputies – members of the Ukraine-Romania parliamentary friendship group, headed by the chairman of the Committee on Legal Policy Denis Maslov. The visit took place at the invitation of the chairman of the corresponding friendship group in the Romanian parliament, Mykola-Myroslav Petretsky.

During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, interaction at the level of parliaments and governments, as well as the challenges faced by Ukrainians in the conditions of a full-scale war.

Special attention was paid to the role of the Ukrainian community in Romania. Representatives of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania emphasized the large-scale cultural, educational and scientific activities of the organization, which annually implements hundreds of projects aimed at preserving Ukrainian identity.

An important aspect of the meeting was the direct communication of the deputies with Ukrainian refugees currently living in Bucharest. The participants had the opportunity to share their own problems, needs and expectations, which allowed them to form a more objective vision of the situation for further legislative initiatives.

The transformation of approaches to such visits was especially emphasized: if previously the focus was mainly on historical communities, now the key element is also support for internally displaced persons and refugees.

The event ended with a cultural program – a performance by the Ukrainian Refugee Theater, which became a symbol of the resilience, solidarity and indomitability of the Ukrainian people even in the most difficult times.

Experts note that such meetings have not only diplomatic, but also practical significance, as they form the basis for further decisions in the field of protecting the rights of Ukrainians abroad and developing international partnerships.
