A fragment of the original Eiffel Tower staircase will be put up for auction in Paris in May. The New York Times reports this.

This is part of the spiral staircase that visitors used to use to climb from the second level to the top of the tower. In 1983, the structure was dismantled and divided into 24 segments, most of which were later sold at auction.

A rare lot with high expectations

According to Sabrina Doll, director of the Artcurial auction house, future auctions may exceed previous records for the value of such objects.

The starting price of the lot is estimated at 120,000 to 150,000 euros. At the same time, experts do not exclude that the final amount will increase significantly during the auction.

Previous sales and records

Similar fragments of the Eiffel Tower have repeatedly become objects of interest to collectors. In particular, in 2016, one of the staircase segments was sold for $611,000, which was a record for such lots.

Last chance for collectors

It is noted that this fragment is the last of a series previously sold by the auction house Artcurial. It is currently privately owned by a French entrepreneur who purchased it immediately after its dismantling.

Thus, the upcoming auction may be a unique opportunity for collectors to obtain a part of one of the most famous symbols of France.
