Rector of the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Tetyana Kaganovskaya, declared receiving almost 10 million hryvnias in state compensation for housing destroyed as a result of the Russian shelling of Kharkiv.
The relevant information is contained in the official’s annual declaration for 2025, submitted on March 27, 2026. The total amount of compensation amounted to 9.8 million hryvnias and was paid in two tranches — 6.1 million hryvnias and 3.7 million hryvnias as compensation for destroyed and damaged property.
According to the document, in January 2025, the rector purchased two apartments in Kharkiv: one with an area of 61.2 sq. m for 3.7 million hryvnias, the other — 86.8 sq. m for 6.1 million hryvnias. The cost of the purchased housing actually coincides with the amounts of compensation received.
The total income of the Kaganovskaya family for the year exceeded 7.9 million UAH. Of this, more than 1.4 million UAH is the rector’s own income, including salary, fees and other payments. The main part of the income was provided by her husband — more than 6.4 million UAH, mainly from entrepreneurial activity.
The declaration also lists the family’s significant monetary assets. In particular, Kaganovskaya keeps more than 120 thousand UAH in bank accounts, and also has cash savings — 180 thousand UAH, 19 thousand euros and more than 10 thousand US dollars. Her husband, in turn, has funds in accounts, cash and has provided loans to third parties in the amount of more than 6 million UAH.
The declaration separately records the husband’s financial obligation — repayable financial assistance of 3 million UAH, of which about 1.9 million UAH remain unpaid.
Recall that on May 5, 2024, the house of Tetyana Kaganovskaya was damaged as a result of a Russian strike on Kharkiv. According to the city authorities, several powerful explosions were heard in the city that day, and the Shevchenkivskyi district, in particular, was hit.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that the central part of the city was hit, while the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Synegubov specified that damage was recorded in several areas, including in the private sector.
At least 10 people were injured as a result of the shelling.
The situation with compensation for destroyed housing remains one of the key topics in the context of the restoration of the affected regions and the transparency of the use of public funds.
