The Russian Federation has threatened to strike Kyiv, including the so-called “decision-making centers,” if Ukraine attacks Moscow during the May 9 celebrations.
This was announced on May 6 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
Russia has called on diplomats to evacuate Kyiv
According to Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry has sent a note to diplomatic missions and international organizations urging them to leave Kyiv in advance.
The document states that a “retaliatory strike” on the Ukrainian capital is “inevitable” if Ukraine implements “terrorist plans” during the events marking the anniversary of the victory in World War II.
The Kremlin has declared a “truce,” but the attacks have continued
The Russian Defense Ministry had previously announced a supposed ceasefire on May 8 and 9. At the same time, the Russian side threatened a “massive missile strike on the center of Kyiv” in the event of a violation of this regime.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine had not received any official proposals or documents from the Russian Federation regarding the format of the cessation of hostilities.
He emphasized that human life is much more important than any “celebrations,” and announced the introduction of a regime of silence on the night of May 6 with a readiness to act “mirror-like.”
Zelensky: “Russia’s main parade already depends on Ukraine”
In an evening address on May 6, Zelensky also stated that Russia “was getting to the point where their main parade already depends on us.”
The President added that Ukraine, depending on the development of the situation, will decide on further decisions and responses on May 7.
Russian attacks on Ukraine continue
Despite statements about a “truce,” on May 6, Russia continued attacks on the territory of Ukraine. Against this background, the threat of new strikes and statements by Russian officials caused another escalation of information and security tensions around May 9.
