British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made an unannounced visit to Ukraine a few days before the end of his term. The main purpose of the trip was to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and confirm the unwavering support of Britain for our country.

This was reported by the press service of the British government.

Support for Ukraine will remain unchanged

As noted by Downing Street, during the talks the parties will discuss further strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities and providing it with the necessary weapons to counter Russian aggression.

Special emphasis will be placed on long-term security guarantees and the development of defense and political partnerships already established between the countries.

“When I became Prime Minister, I knew that the United Kingdom should not only support Ukraine at a specific time, but also help lay the foundations for its long-term security. I am proud of what Britain has done,” said Keir Starmer.

According to him, even after the end of his term, London’s policy of supporting Ukraine will remain unchanged.

Visit on the eve of resignation

Recall that on June 22, Keir Starmer officially announced his decision to leave the post of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The politician explained this step by state interests and reported that the procedure for electing a new head of government should begin in the near future.

After the announcement of his resignation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Starmer for his consistent support for Ukraine, joint security decisions, and contribution to strengthening European security.

Possible future in NATO

At the same time, British political circles are discussing the possibility of Keir Starmer’s further international career. According to media reports, after completing his work as Prime Minister, he may apply for the post of NATO Secretary General.

The unannounced visit to Kyiv marked the symbolic end of his prime ministerial term and confirmed that the strategic partnership between Great Britain and Ukraine does not depend on a change in the country’s political leadership.
