Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga held his first personal meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban. The talks took place on the sidelines of the NATO meeting in Helsingborg.
During the meeting, the parties summed up the results of the first round of bilateral consultations at the expert level on national minority issues, which took place this week. The diplomats also agreed to hold the next round of negotiations next week.
According to Sybiga, Ukraine and Hungary seek to find constructive solutions and achieve practical results on sensitive issues of bilateral relations.
“We recognize the importance of progress on this track; we seek to find constructive solutions and achieve tangible results. For my part, I emphasized the critical importance of Ukraine’s accession to the EU and the timely opening of negotiation clusters,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized.
During the talks, the parties paid special attention to the security situation. Andriy Szybiga informed his Hungarian counterpart about the situation on the front, the progress of the peace process, and a possible new role for Europe in security matters.
The Foreign Ministry notes that the diplomats agreed: the resumption of active bilateral dialogue between Ukraine and Hungary is a positive signal not only for the two states, but also for the whole of Europe.
The parties also coordinated further contacts at all levels to continue the negotiation process.
