The country is discussing the expansion of social support for Ukrainian women

Against the backdrop of record low birth rates, the Czech Republic is discussing the possibility of granting Ukrainian women under temporary protection the right to state “parental allowance” and maternity benefits.

This is reported by the Czech publication Seznam Zprávy.

Ukrainian women may be allowed to receive child benefits

This is a state payment to one of the parents of a child under three years of age who is caring for the child.

Currently, persons with temporary protection status are not entitled to such benefits in the Czech Republic. At the same time, some demographers and sociologists believe that the expansion of the program for Ukrainian women could have a positive impact on the demographic situation in the country.

The amount of the payment is 350 thousand Czech crowns — more than 14 thousand euros.

Experts believe that this could affect birth rates

Analysts emphasize that a large number of Ukrainian women of reproductive age are currently in the Czech Republic.

“It would be good to motivate them with these payments,” said a representative of the Demographic Information Center.

Sociologist Daniel Prokop also stated that Ukrainian women’s access to maternity benefits could significantly affect the country’s demographic indicators.

No draft law yet

Despite active discussions, no official draft law on granting Ukrainian women the right to such payments has been registered in the Czech Republic yet.

The topic is being actively discussed in the political environment on the eve of the elections and is expected to become one of the topics of the government conference on fertility.

Over 155,000 Ukrainian women live in the Czech Republic

According to the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs, over 155,000 Ukrainian women aged 18 to 65 are in the country with temporary protection status alone.

Representatives of the Ukrainian community note that the low birth rate among Ukrainian women in the Czech Republic is primarily due to the uncertainty of the future and the temporary status of their stay in the country.
