In Ukraine, on May 31, 2026, the state fuel cashback program officially ended, which the government introduced as a temporary anti-crisis mechanism due to the sharp increase in world prices for petroleum products.
This was reported by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The program has been in effect since March 20, 2026 and was aimed primarily at owners of mass-market cars. According to the government, almost 2.3 million Ukrainians received cashback during its operation.
The Cabinet of Ministers noted that 91% of program participants are owners of budget cars with a small engine capacity, for which fuel costs make up a significant part of the family budget.
More than 220 gas station operators have joined the program – both large chains and local gas stations throughout the country.
“This confirms the high demand for such a support tool during the price shock,” said Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Vitaliy Kindrativ.
Cashback was automatically accrued during non-cash payment for fuel at gas stations participating in the program. The amount of compensation was:
15% for diesel fuel;
10% for gasoline;
5% for liquefied gas.
The government emphasizes that the program was part of a comprehensive policy to respond to the fuel crisis and was temporary in nature.
At the same time, the state program “National Cashback” continues to operate. Currently, it is used by more than 5 million Ukrainians, who receive compensation for the purchase of Ukrainian-made goods.
The accumulated funds can be used to pay for utilities, purchase medicines, books, Ukrainian goods, and also be directed to charity or support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Cabinet of Ministers also reminded that the accumulated cashback on fuel must be used by June 30, 2026 inclusive. After this date, unused funds will be returned to the state budget.
