The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has completed its plenary work and gone on vacation until August 18, without appointing new heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The positions of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service also remain vacant.
This was reported by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the People’s Party from the Holos faction.
Appointment of the Minister of Defense postponed
According to the parliamentarian, the meeting of the Servant of the People faction, at which the candidacy of the new Minister of Defense was to be decided, did not actually take place.
“They are looking for another candidate for the position of Minister of Defense,” Zheleznyak noted.
He also reported that the candidacies of neither Ihor Klymenko nor Mykhailo Fedorov are currently being considered. According to him, the authorities continue to search for a new candidate for this position.
The Parliament will return to work on August 18
The MP suggested that personnel decisions may be made after the end of the parliamentary vacation.
In addition, Zheleznyak reported that there will be no plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on July 17, and deputies will return to work only on August 18.
Key state positions remain vacant in Ukraine
According to the deputy, the following are currently absent from the state:
Minister of Defense;
Minister of Foreign Affairs;
Head of the Security Service of Ukraine;
Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.
Commenting on the situation, Zheleznyak ironically remarked: “This way we will definitely win.”
He also clarified that Mykhailo Fedorov no longer performs the duties of the minister, since after the Verkhovna Rada approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, his powers ceased.
What preceded
Recall that on July 16, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Serhiy Koretsky to the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine. The corresponding decision was supported by 289 people’s deputies.
At the same time, Mykhailo Fedorov previously announced the completion of his work as head of the Ministry of Defense and emphasized the need for radical personnel changes in the security and defense sector, in particular regarding the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
