US President Donald Trump said he was continuing diplomatic contacts with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia in order to reach agreements on ending the war.
In an interview with Fox News, the American leader confirmed that he was holding regular talks with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the Kremlin.
According to Trump, the negotiation process remains difficult due to the high level of tension between the parties.
“The hatred between President Putin and President Zelensky is nonsense. It’s madness. Hate is a bad thing when you’re trying to settle something. But it will happen,” he said.
Negotiations continue, but without details
When asked by journalists about his recent contacts with the Russian leader, Trump refrained from giving specifics, but confirmed the fact of constant dialogue.
“I don’t want to reveal it, but I do talk to Putin. And I also talk to President Zelensky. We’re working on the situation with Russia and Ukraine. And I hope we will achieve a result,” the US president stressed.
At the same time, he acknowledged that hostilities continue, and achieving a quick breakthrough in the negotiations remains questionable.
Diplomatic context
Trump’s statement came against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities and attempts by the international community to find ways to de-escalate. Experts note that the intensification of direct contacts between key parties may indicate a search for new formats for the negotiation process.
However, the lack of specific details regarding the content of the talks and potential agreements leaves open the question of the real prospects for achieving peace in the near future.
