US President Donald Trump has not yet expressed full public support for the bill to tighten sanctions against Russia, although he does not rule out signing it after it is approved by Congress.

This is reported by Axios.

Trump is in no hurry to support the sanctions initiative

According to the publication, the head of the White House is not yet ready to officially support the bill, which provides for a significant increase in sanctions pressure on Russia.

At the same time, Donald Trump has made it clear that he may sign the document after its adoption. According to journalists, he sees such a decision as a tribute to the memory of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was one of the main authors of the legislative initiative.

The bill already has the support of the majority of senators

The document, prepared by Lindsey Graham together with Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, provides for a significant increase in economic pressure on Russia.

According to the latest data, the bill has already been supported by more than 60 senators, which is a sufficient number of votes for its adoption in the US Senate.

However, the final terms for considering the document have not yet been determined.

Sanctions are not a priority for Trump

Despite statements about the likelihood of the document being adopted, Trump, according to Axios, does not currently consider the promotion of this bill to be one of the main priorities of his administration.

At the same time, the White House previously stated its readiness to support the sanctions initiative after its passage through Congress.

Recall that the bill, which was called “hell sanctions” in the media, provides for a significant increase in economic pressure on Russia, as well as secondary restrictions on countries that continue to cooperate with the Russian energy sector.
