Cabinet announces new initiative due to acute shortage of personnel in the labor market

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko said that the shortage of personnel has already become one of the main challenges for the Ukrainian economy. In response to the situation, the government is launching a new national internship and employment program for citizens aged 50+.

The initiative is called “Experience Matters.”

Why is the government launching the program

According to the Prime Minister, human capital is today a key factor in Ukraine’s economic stability in the context of war and post-war recovery.

That is why the government plans to more actively involve older people in the labor market, who have significant professional experience but often face difficulties when looking for a job.

How the program will work

The “Experience Matters” program includes three main stages:

training and adaptation to the modern labor market;

meetings with employers and discussion of the format of cooperation;

internship or employment in the company.

Participants will be helped to update their resumes, improve their digital skills, and prepare for a new stage of their careers.

Who will implement the project

The program will be implemented jointly with the State Employment Center, business representatives, and public partners.

What problems did the study reveal

As noted by Yulia Svyrydenko, the study “Labor Market After 50” showed that employers highly value the reliability, responsibility, and professional experience of older workers.

At the same time, among the main barriers to employment remain the insufficient level of digital skills and age stereotypes during hiring.
