The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire to prepare for a peace deal. This was stated by US President Donald Trump, announcing the agreements reached after negotiations with the participation of Pakistan.
Terms of the ceasefire
According to the American leader, the ceasefire is bilateral in nature and provides, in particular, for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping from Iran.
Trump noted that the decision was made after consultations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the leadership of the Pakistani army.
A step towards a peace deal
Washington claims that they have already achieved the main military goals and are ready to move on to a diplomatic settlement.
In addition, the United States received from Iran a 10-point plan to end the conflict, which is considered the basis for negotiations.
What’s next
The two-week period should be crucial for agreeing a final peace deal that could affect the security situation not only between the two countries but also across the Middle East.
