The European Union and the G7 countries have reacted to Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine, which damaged the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the issue of increasing pressure on Russia would be discussed at the G7 summit. She stressed the need for further steps to force Russia to negotiate and stop the fighting, stressing that Europe supports Ukraine’s aspirations for peace.
French President Emmanuel Macron, commenting on the attack, said that the attack on the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was unacceptable and once again demonstrated the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. He stressed that France was ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian authorities on issues of protecting cultural heritage and supporting Ukraine.
The G7 plans to discuss further steps to increase international pressure on Russia, as well as mechanisms for achieving a ceasefire and establishing a lasting peace. The leaders emphasize that attacks on civilian objects and cultural sites are unacceptable and require a strong response from the international community.
