Prosecutor General Kravchenko in the USA discussed war crimes of the Russian Federation, anti-corruption and cooperation with the FBI

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko has completed a working visit to the United States of America, during which he held a series of meetings with representatives of the US Department of State, the US Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United Nations.

During the talks, the parties discussed the issues of Russian war crimes, reform of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, the fight against corruption and international legal cooperation.

Prosecutor’s office reform and the anti-corruption system discussed in the US

In Washington, Ruslan Kravchenko met with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Smith and David Bedard.

The talks focused on:

the functioning of the justice system in Ukraine;

the development of prosecutor’s offices;

the work of the anti-corruption infrastructure;

the trust of international partners in Ukrainian institutions.

According to the Prosecutor General, the independent and effective work of anti-corruption bodies is a key component of a democratic state.

Separately, the parties discussed the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of the Prosecutor’s Office for 2025–2028, which provides for updating personnel approaches, raising professional standards, and enhancing the quality of pre-trial investigation.

Ukraine and the United States are strengthening cooperation on Russian war crimes

During the visit, considerable attention was paid to the issues of documenting Russian war crimes.

These include, in particular:

illegal deportation of Ukrainian children;

forced change of their identity;

crimes against children in occupied territories;

sexual violence in wartime.

Ruslan Kravchenko emphasized that US support within the Advisory Group on the Most Serious International Crimes helps Ukrainian investigators and prosecutors to better collect evidence and prepare materials for international justice.

FBI and US Department of Justice to Assist in Combating Cybercrime

During a separate meeting with representatives of the US Department of Justice and the FBI, the parties discussed:

international legal assistance;
combating cybercrime;
investigating cross-border crimes;
exchanging information between law enforcement agencies.

The issue of extradition and mechanisms for holding individuals involved in serious crimes accountable was also discussed.

The UN discussed sexual violence during war

In New York, the Attorney General met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten.

The parties discussed:

holding perpetrators accountable;
assistance to victims;
international mechanisms for protecting victims of war crimes.

Separately, during the visit, issues of sanctions policy, circumvention of international restrictions, and the supply of dual-use components for Russian weapons were raised.

Summing up the results of the trip, Ruslan Kravchenko stated that cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the field of justice remains systematic, practical, and focused on a specific result.
