European Solidarity MP Nina Yuzhanina reported an incident in Kyiv, during which her car was almost towed after a short stop at a pharmacy.
The parliamentarian shared the situation on her Facebook page.
According to Yuzhanina, that morning she was on her way to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and decided to urgently stop by the pharmacy on the way to buy some medicine before a faction meeting.
As the deputy noted, the car was left for only a few minutes with the emergency alarm turned on. However, during this time, the parking inspector had already managed to record the violation, and a tow truck was nearby, ready to pick up the vehicle.
According to the parliamentarian, the reason for issuing the violation was that the car partially drove onto a bicycle path.
Yuzhanina emphasized that she does not deny the need to comply with traffic rules and responsibility for their violation. At the same time, she questioned the proportionality of the measures taken in such a situation.
In her opinion, if a violation really occurred, it should be recorded and considered in accordance with the established procedure, however, the question of the expediency of immediate evacuation remains open.
Separately, the deputy raised the issue of the functioning of the parking control system in the capital and the financial component of the work of tow trucks.
According to Yuzhanina, she had previously appealed to the city authorities regarding the work practices of parking inspectors, since recently there have been increasingly frequent discussions about the boundaries between ensuring order and the commercial component of the evacuation business.
The People’s Deputy called for a discussion of possible legislative changes that would more clearly regulate the procedure for evacuation services and the mechanisms of their work.
The situation once again brought to the fore the issue of the balance between compliance with traffic rules, the powers of inspectors, and the rights of drivers.
